Not entirely true. I booked a room for my wife, put her name on the reservation, and my MR number in the reservation. I got points and stay credit. I'm really surprised, because I was at another Marriott property during the same time period. I also the points and credit for my stay. Evidently, their computer isn't smart enough to figure out that I couldn't be in two places at once.
