To add to Opus' post:

1. If you carry the AMEX Platinum Skymiles card, and charge at least $25,000 in a year, you will be credited with 10,000 base miles. Great deal for big spenders, or dewds (Note to GG: or dewdettes!) who have their own business, etc. There is also a 5k base mile bonus for signing up.

2. Mileage will accrue on Skyteam partner flights--Air France, Korean, Aeromexico, CSA Czech, and Alitalia--regardless of whether it is a codeshare flight or not (to a newbie, this may not be clear from Opus' post). The general consensus is that you have to chase those miles down, at least on Air France, i.e., save your boarding cards.

3. Codeshare flights on non-skyteam members, with, as Opus noted, the DL # on the ticket. (I once got base miles on a Malev codeshare; sadly, no more).

4. Oh, yeah. Welcome to Flyertalk....

regards, and safe journeys,

O/H
