I had a hard time getting an award seat for a trip to Hawaii. It was suggested that I call Delta's customer agents at night because they usually are friendlier and more willing to work with you. When I called on a Saturday night, I was able to get a flight that was acceptable. I had also recommended this idea to someone else & they too were successful.
