What's your fare code(s)? If you have a full Y fare, known as Y-up, you can ask for the UG at time of purchase. Just call the GE line and ask a csr if you can be UG'ed. I think another thing to look for is a "-26" or "-27" code in your fare.

If you purchased a discounted coach ticket, I recommend you OLCI as early as possible. You want to get on the FC stand-by list in as high an order as possible, especially as a Gold. For example, I am scheduled to fly FNT-MSP-SAN tomorrow morning and just did OLCI at 23:55 as I didn't get the UG on the MSP-SAN segment. ITN is showing P3F2 and the NWA FC seatmap is still showing 3A and 4A open. There may be a slight risk that an 'R' seat in FC may open up between now and flight time, but I'm putting my money on getting as high up there (on the List) as a Gold as I can.
