I had a similar situation with my e-mail. In my case, the solution was to go into Outgoing Server, and select requires authentication.
It actually ended up being an ISP thing, rather than a mail server or client thing... *shrug* at least thats what they told me.
My mail server has an automaticly-generated list of specific things to be entered into the mail client, such as "server requires authentiation" passwords, etc. - all that stuff, so I don't think anything's wrong with that. I've verified it all multiple times, so I'm not sure what's going on.
