I called last week and got it credited, but it took a lot of arguing. First they told me they'd never heard of the promo, so I asked for a supervisor, who also denied any knowledge of the promo; then I quoted from the 1K website, and they told me they agreed the promo existed, but had no mechanism to do the credit yet, and wouldn't until the statement period closed... then I specifically quoted the language on the 1K site telling us that we could call to request the credit earlier than April or May was "fraudulent," and that I'd be calling an attorney. Then they had it credited promptly (both the pro-rated up-charge from the regular to Platinum card from last year, and this year's $140 charge).
Ridiculous.
FWIW, the credit will come through in April or May (it did for me last year anyway), but I doubt that an annual fee that's not on the normal cycle (ie if you joined mid-last year, for example, or upgraded mid-last year), would come through automatically.
To their credit, they gave me no trouble at all about verifying that I was a 1K.
