Four luggage incidents this year for me...
1. Flying ORD-YWG on United (code share for AC) in summer. SOmething happened on the previous flight, and so about half the luggage on our flight never made it on the RJ as it was full with luggage from a previous flight.
Luggage delivered next morning.
2. Was flying YWG-YVR-Kelowna this October and was meeting people flying YWG-YYC-Kelowna to drive down to a Trade Show in Penticton. My YWG-YVR flight went mechanical and after three hours we de-planed and then as soon as I was in the MLL changing my flights to arrive me in Penticton they fixed the plane and we were good to go again. However now my bags are tagged to Kelowna and I am going to Penticton and we have a trade show beginning the next day and I have half the booth.
They couldnt do anything in Winnipeg, asked me to check in YVR so arrived in YVR went directly to MLL and they called down and had the bags pulled from the Kelowna flight and re-routed them to Penticton. My guys drove down from Kelowna, went straight to Penticton airport and I arrived 15 minutes later with all my luggage.
3. Flying YEG-YYC-LAX-YYZ-YWG on AC this fall and my trade show booth did not make it to the US Customs luggage pick-up booth. Had the person manning the luggage belt looking for it. Ran into a check-in agent who was coming off shift who saw how distressed I was and she eventually found the bag, and came chasing after me after I had already cleared US customs. She brought me back to my bag, escorted me through customs and I made my flight. THe luggage delay was because they had it being sent directly to Winnipeg, now had I known that I would have travelled without it through LAX and YYZ gladly but did not know that at the time, and we had another trade show in a couple of days and I could not afford to lose it.
4. Returning from SYD. Checked bags in YVR for final leg back to YWG at 7:00 am flight not till 2:30 pm. Bags priority tagged. Arrived in Winnipeg, and only one bag made it. Again half the plane did not have bags make it as there were bags from the previous flight, as well everyone and their dog had 3 or 4 bags per person. Many garbage bags stuffed with Christmas presents. First thing that annoyed me is priority tagged bags checked in 6 hours before the flight should make the flight. Second thing is extra luggage should be what is bumped even if they paid the extra luggage charge.
There was also an African lady and her three boys moving from Africa to Winnipeg. When she borded the plane with her three sons all under 5 all wearing suits, they looked so gosh darn cute, and you could tell they were very very proud, and excited.
So she had 18 bags and boxes on the plane, but you could tell it was all their worldly possesions. I had no problem with my bags getting bumped for hers. Welcome to Canada!
So all-in-all I have not really had poor experiences with my luggage this past year, but when there was a negative experience AC did their best to make it right for me.
