We all know that there are no-shows for flights, and going standby works many times, based upon my many years of flying experience. I do accept that it does not always work. However, refusing to put her on standby under these circumstances, which would have only costed her about 45 minutes at the airport, is unacceptable to me. Most other airlines would have done this, as they pretty much all have standby policies.

As an ending to my original saga, my daughter's original flight from ATL to MCO was on-time right up until 7.07pm (13 minutes prior to departure), when it suddenly was delayed until 8.00pm. So if she had taken the original flight from DAY to ATL, she would have made the connection just fine. I know there are many reasons for delays, but I cannot understand how many times they post delays to flights so late, when flight ops know a flight will be delayed much earlier than they post it, especially in weather situations.

Now it is Saturday morning and she is stuck on a ground hold in Dayton due to high winds. DL web site notification system shows the flight estimated to leave at 11.00am, with an estimated arrival time of "On Time". Interesting that the actual time is 11.45am!

Hopefully she will arrive in time to make her return flight on Tuesday morning.
