I bought a Delta ticket from Nashville (BNA) to Moscow (SVO) for March. I am not a Delta FF member, but I am a NWA member. So I called Delta, and they gave me 11,000 miles for NWA. I already had about 7,500 miles on NWA before that.

I am planning a trip to Australia in May, and while I will pay cash money for my ticket on Qantas, I'd like to not pay for my ticket from BNA to LAX. I'd love to have an award ticket. As I understand, I would need 25,000 NWA miles to get a domestic ticket. Right now, I have 18,500 (or when I get the miles credited). I need 6,500 miles.

Here's my question. I can sign up for a NWA Visa and get 5,000 points but I that's not enough. Or I can sign up for a Delta AmEx and get 10,000 miles. Can I transfer those miles from Delta to my NWA account? Can somebody enlighten me? ARe there any other options beisdes MRs or just flying more?

I do have an AmEx HiltonHHonors card with about 20,000 points on it and I do have the DoubleDipping thing enable, though I haven't seen anything deposited from them to my NWA account (the one listed as the default account). If somebody can shed some light on my options I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
The reason you got 11,000 miles for your Delta flights, was not that you got them "transferred" from Delta to NWA. Because Delta is a member of the Skyteam alliance, so you earn miles for your NWA account, each time you fly on Delta flights. So, when you booked your trip and gave Delta your NWA number, the miles for the trip were deposited in that account.

However, you can only sign up for a Delta Amex card if you have a Delta FF account. It is into that account (and you'd have to open one to get the card) that the 10,000 miles would go. There is no way you can transfer balances from one airline FF account to another (within or outside Skyteam), so they would be useless for your present need.

Check the NWA guide to earning miles (it must be online - on their website, probably - somewhere) and see what the alternatives to flying are. I don't know whether or not NWA is one of the airlines you can designate in the Priority Club (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza) hotel loyalty scheme, but they have bonus miles offers on at the moment. And it might be worth contacting Hilton HHonors to chase up whether they should have been depositing your miles in your NWA account, or if not, whether you can transfer them now. And if you think a Mileage Run might be the answer, have a look on that forum for suggestions.
