Question Upgrade at self check-in ?

Hi !
Have anybody had any experiences with upgrades at the self check-in kiosks ?
I am about to fly SLC-MSP-AMS-ARN and read on the NW website that when I check myself in at the airport through one of the kiosks, I may be offered to upgrade to a higher cabin in exchange for a "nominal cash fee" and that this option is not available when I check in at home throgh the website.

So I called up NW and asked about the "nominal cash fee", the answer I got was that "it varies", thats it. So, do anybody of you out there actually have an idea of how much it would cost, is it worth to do it or should I not bother just check in from home as usual ?

Thanks.
