I flew on LH with S class tickets in 2004 and early 2005. LH only gives 50% miles in their Miles and More Program. But I got 100% miles for my DM account. Even the 100% bonus miles for GP, but I understand the bonus miles went away as of FEB/MAR 2005.
LOT is part of Star Alliance too, so I would think same rule applies.
Later on this month, I am flying to FRA on US and then LOT to WAW on LH ticket, I'll let you know the result if your dad is not flying before that. Otherwise you let me know how he makes out.
