I stayed at the Ritz Carlton ... that was a great time ... great pool area and I would suggest renting one of the cabannas ... anyway as far as the beach is concerened I have to throw in my two cents. I went there on two occassions over a week. I found the people that where there great and very attractive for the most part. There where straights, gays, and families with kids but it was very relaxing and easy going. I am a former model (and still do it from time to time), and I was able to meet a very nice guy from Texas at the beach and spend some time with him over the course of my week there. So don't be too quick to rule out this little peace of paradise.
