If it's a self-check out, most of the time they never know when you leave. At the Hilton's I've stayed at, they slide the bill under your door the morning of departure. They usually have no way of knowing when you leave.
I think contacting the hotel and explaining to them is your best bet ^

But rather than stay at the airport until the noon flight to ATL, I was thinking that I'd just go back to the hotel and relax in my room (which should be mine until noon, in theory).
However, I'm wondering what the front desk reaction will be if the maid 'reports' that the room has been vacated.
I'm not really sure how it works when you do express checkout and don't notify the front desk that you're leaving. Do you think I'd have any problems? Do I have a 'right' to that room (or any room) until noon? Anybody have any experience with this scenario?
