Landing fees at Dallas Love Field may soon increase for the first time since 1997 -- returning to a rate charged as far back as the mid 1980s.

Even at the proposed higher rate, Dallas Love Field's fee is one of the lowest in the nation at similar airports.

The recommendation by Love Field's Aviation Director Kenneth Gwyn and the city's Chief Financial Officer Dave Cook, came Monday amid criticism about the city-owned airport's finances.

Some newly elected Dallas City Council members indicated landing fees are too low and that airlines should be paying more. But longtime council member Ed Oakley pointed out that if the city raises landing fees then airlines are going to raise the prices of their tickets.
