You are absolutely right. I thought the OP was keen on BR (and BTW, some people are REALLY die hard fans), otherwise the OP would have chosen AA/CX combo. Anyway, it seems most comepting airlines have similar fares to TPE from the west coast.....but until recently the identical fares have disappeared, with BR lowballing everyone else by at least $500......

Anyway, for TPE I usually don't mind a stop in HKG or taking AA to NRT then CX to TPE......
