Now that I didnt know.

When I checked miles required for redemption on BA.com (UK to Hawaii) it states that 50,000 is enough for a return. I presumed that x 0.5 would allow for an MFU upgrade.

I am confused therefore in thinking that I can redeem in miles, but not MFU on this route?
