Ok, I'll revise my statement to say: "the majority of the time, the lowest available advance purchase fare on NZ does not earn miles"

While this is fairly consistent with intra-Europe, it's inconsistent with the US (where all published domestic fares earn miles).

Guess it may be a sign of things to come, as the business rationale is fairly sound if enough customers are willing to upsell to a higher fare category for the sole purpose of earning miles.
