So, given that, what is the downside for the stockholders?
My guess is eventual loss of their loyal passengers. I have been PL for a couple of years. Have already booked enough flights on AA this year to come close to requalifying. I'll book those remaining 7000 miles this year. But come next year, I will not go out of my way to only fly AA. For me the straw was the international co-pay. I am not allowed to buy J or F tickets. I relied on my miles to get the upgrade. Now I have to lay out $500 of my own money. My international flights are optional in my line of work. I do it because I enjoy the travel .... and the comfort. Take away the comfort...and now the quality of the service, what motivation is there for me to keep doing it? I suspect '06 is my final year of at least 50K BIS business with AA. How do you think the stockholders would feel about a chunk of loyal customers declining to use their service?
