I've done the standing room at Vienna and I've always queued from about noon.

I don't think you have much chance. All the downstairs standing room will definitely be gone.

You could try to buy some of the cheap upstairs seats in advance - you get between poor and no view but you can hear the music. The upstairs standees will be standing behind you.
