I was able to get my daughter an AMEX/DL Platinum card at 16 for a trip to Spain. At first, they were reluctant but after getting connected to a supervisor, I was able to convince them of the great benefits for AMEX and they sent one out immediately. Those benefits were, of course, having her as a customer instead of VISA or MC and keeping my business as well. Sometimes one is lucky with the right CSR.
