Still thinking about this... I wonder if they sell it in economy and then tell FC they are out? To me it sounds like they just don't want to be giving out free booze. Odd thing is that if you pay $200 for ATL-LGA for example and fly in coach it costs $5 for a drink regardless of status, but if you get upgraded you pay no more for the flight and drinks are free. That only just struck me as strange for the first time.
