So I may have to do a trip ORD - PVG relatively soon. The thing is that the weekend flights that I am considering are either all sold out in business or I would be waitlisted e.g. ORD - PVG direct or ORD - SFO - PVG. In addition, I am not getting D fares both ways and faced with paying close to $6000USD for discounted C.

Earlier this year going to NRT, I spent ~20000USD less by doing a routing through TPE and then using an ex-TPE one-way D fare. (about 14000USD)

I'd like to see if it is possible to do this again esp. since I would like to spend a 2 days or so in Taipei. So...

Is there a way to get one-way business class transpacific ORD - PVG and then one-way PVG - xxx - TPE for around 2000USD?

The one-way D fare on UA from ORD - PVG was around 3000USD so no savings there.
I prefer *A, but will fly other carriers.
I don't mind flying coach between PVG and TPE.
