As noted by several people in this thread already, Wal-Mart company policy is to accept all forms of payment for gift cards that they would accept for all other pieces of merchandise. (Any store that is not accepting credit cards for a gift card is doing so as a fraud prevention measure - in other words, for their protection - however, it's against their company policy to do so.)
What is not entirely correct in this thread, however, is the assertion by MoreMilesPlease that gift cards are the same as cash. They're close, but they're not money, in that they do not have universal acceptance outside of the store/brand for which they're issued, and they cannot be readily converted into a more liquid form. (Yes, I know that lots of people are able to cash out their Wal-Mart gift cards, but it's against company policy unless it's required by law.)
Besides, if this were true, then you wouldn't see online retailers like giftcertificates.com - or, for that matter, Wal-Mart and other retailers selling their own gift cards online.
