Vienna Opera standing room tickets
I am scheduled to spend an overnight layover in VIE on 18 January. On the suggestion of a friend, I am strongly considering trying to get a ridiculously-cheap standing room ticket to the Opera that night. (Don Giovanni is the performance, and advance ticket sales seem to have been brisk.) Here's my issue: my flight is due in at 16:25. Curtain rises at 18:30, and the standing room ticket office opens 80 minutes before curtain, namely at 17:10. In a best case scenario, I can get to the Opera at about 17:10, which assumes no flight delays and on-schedule trains from the airport into town.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is how soon before curtain can I arrive to still have a chance at a ticket. Is it one of those deals where you have to queue up for hours, or can I still get in 15-20 minutes before curtain? Any feedback, particularly from past experiences, is appreciated!
