Will BA transfer my luggage to an onward flight with LY?

Hi guys,
I’m traveling to TLV vie AMS in April and although the cheapest way to get to AMS one way is BMI (at the moment £2+tax) they will not transfer my luggage due to their new policies.
I am continuing to TLV on an LY flight and I was wondering if BA would transfer my luggage to the onward flight even though it will not be on the same ticket?
I seem to remember them doing it for me in the past (different route though) so thought I would be better off maybe booking BA.
Would not be a big deal to collect my luggage and then check into flight only I will have about 5 hours between the flights so thought I would go into Amsterdam for few hours.
I could of course store my luggage, but obviously if I could have it transferred to my onward flight would be the easiest way.
