I have to agree with HRGM - when I was silver or gold, I know that the only reason I was able to snag some upgrades was because I got up at 5:45 on a saturday morning to call and get my upgrade request in for my next flight. I know a lot of people just thought "I'll do it when I wake up" - only to find me already in their seat...
