Millage earning at Marriott hotels

Hi,

I was looking at the earning schemes of several different hotel chains and the one that stroke me is what marriott offers:

Mileage Earned
# 3 Aeroplan Miles for the equivalent of every U.S. dollar spent on qualifying charges, excluding taxes.

Eligibility
# Earn 1 or 3 Aeroplan Miles per U.S. dollar spent per eligible stay at participating hotel partner locations regardless of the number of rooms or suites you have rented. Quote your Aeroplan number when making reservations and present your Aeroplan card at check-in.

Now, I'm looking at a marriott with a rate of 231.00 (USD) per night. If I stay for 7 days I would get 4851 miles (231*3*7) in the best case or at least 1617 miles?

4851 miles sounds like a lot to me.

Any experiences?
