I noticed this rule last month:

No change fee applies for changing a free coach award ticket to a business/first class free award, or changing a free business/first class free award to a premium class free award. Both the reinstatement and expedite fee will be waived. The origin/destination cities and carriers in the itinerary must remain the same. If any of these three are changed, then the change fee will apply.
Is this really new? Seems like a logical thing to do (I know, I know, since when did logic ever come into play with AA?).
