When I lived in NY I found it very friendly. Other spots to check out to meet guys are the museums. Many bars near the theatre dist/mid town. are bit more cozy and very easy to strike up a conversation. I'll also add my advice that sitting at the bar when alone is a good spot.
Some of my faves are Posh, Barrage, G, SBNY(Splash), Barracuda, XL, Beige & Therapy. HX and Next are great to know what happening on each night.
