What documentation should we get from the Consulate? Especially if we are not going to get his passport replaced while we are down there....
Unfortunately, what you have in San Miguel is actually a consular agency. They lack the ability to tap in to the database of previous passports and do not have the physical capacity to print a new one. Get on a bus to Mexico City to get a new emergency passport, and call ahead to see when they can receive you at the embassy. If it would be easier, you could try the consulates in Guadalajara or Monterrey. Good luck!
