Does anyone sell a simple hard disk based digital video recorder without a monthly subscription fee?

I don't really need Tivo or other sophisticated scheduling programs, I just want to be able to record the occassional TV show. Basically what I want is a digital version of a standard re-recordable VCR. I don't want to use up DVD media.
