I've lost so many things by forgetting them in rental cars (maps, change, phone chargers, CDs, etc.) and no-one ever lifted a finger to return them to me. If I'd handed the watch in to the police, what would they have done? Handed it to the rental company (Avis IIRR). And what would the rental company have done? Nothing more than throw the thing in the trash. I'm not being cynical - car rental companies don't have time to mail lost property half way around the world ten times a day.
