A shortage of federal security screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport has resulted in the highest percentage of overtime in recent months among 136 East Coast airports, according to supervisors familiar with the figures.

Screeners had been ordered since October to work six-day weeks twice a month to adequately staff security lines at the checkpoints and ensure all checked luggage is screened for explosives.
