Most positive service experiences on CDG I have read on flyertalk have been written by French language/culture savvy posters, including that of the OP:

The opinion about French being "an increasingly obscure language" does not seem related to the topic at hand.
Wasn't intended as a summary, just one salient observation based on the content of the thread before deterioration into OMNI land.

It is the behaviour of the ground employees at CDG and the experiences of the American posters (and also posters on this forum) which places the decrease in general utility of the French language squarely on topic: At CDG today (and in the air on AF) many examples can be cited where differentiated (or no) service is offered based on whether or not (and how well) one speaks French.

That the French language is becoming increasingly obscure relative to e.g. English on a global basis is not my personal opinion but rather a matter of fact. In relative terms a very small percentage of global travellers speak French compared to English and other languages. An overwhelming and steadily increasing majority of travellers expect at least to be (able to be) served well in English given that English is the lingua franca of both the aviation world and global business. If CDG aspires to be a world class global hub, then the service offered there must recognize this fact.

Personally I am fascinated by the French language and prefer to spend a great deal of my free time in France eating royally and drinking copious quantities of wine while immersed in Cartesian debate: these are the off topic personal opinions.
