Iyou use one of the eService centers in the airport, you're considered "checked in". This has saved me many times, because there is usually a free eService center somewhere in the vacinity of my drop-off point at the airport. If I had to run to the gate before checking in, there are dozens of times I'd have missed the 10 minute cutoff.... but by checking in electronically at the other end of the airport, they (so far) haven't given up my seat, because they (aparantly) know I'm in the middle of an OJ Immitation (dash not slash)....
This has been true for both CO and NW.
