LA/SoCal has had the same powerful storm system that trashed Napa/Sacramento earlier in the weekend. I haven't checked news reports, but I can tell you that we had very powerful winds (palm leaves being blown from trees) in my part of LA (10 miles NNE of LAX).

I wouldnt' be surprised if narrowbodies were being diverted that far away, so that PHX & LAS could take the heavies.
