As an EXP flyer, though, you really don't need those, as upgrades are comped if space is available. I've cleared 74 of my last 78 free domestic requests, and another 3 have already cleared for this coming Thursday 100 hours out. The only downside is that if you have a traveling companion you'll have to buy their upgrades, or take them from your stash of pre-EXP 500 milers in account (I still have a stack--they don't expire on AA), but then that probably balances out if you were buying upgrades on UA.
