Gee....where do I begin.
The most recent was last week and the "used" Q-tip sitting on the sink in the bathroom of the Chicago Downtown Marriott Magnificent Mile! Second most recent was at the Newark, CA Courtyard this past fall where the last guest in the room I was given had left a grossly "over-ripe" cheap shirt hanging in the closet. The whole room smelled rank because of it, and I was moved. Then there was the half cup of coffee and a half-consumed bagel in a (non-Marriott) hotel just outside of Toronto a couple of years back...which made for a rather startling welcome! As did the unemptied trash can! Several other incidents too gross/mundane/somehwere-in-between to mention.
And yes, I've found money....if you count change in the upholstery of sofas and chairs.
But my favorite was what found ME one time. Holiday Inn Airport in New Orleans, in the mid-80s. Checked in on a hot Saturday afternoon after a long drive, and decided I could use a cool, refreshing shower. Ten minutes later, as I stepped out of my shower....I heard the door open and here came a guy carrying his bride across the threshold! Fortunately, I had a towel around my waist!
I don't know who was more stunned....them or me...but to this day I've often
wondered about how that marriage came out! Turned out to be a couple from Oklahoma. Seems the front desk had mistakenly put me in what was supposed to have been their room.
