You can try to bargain in such case, at least as a SEN or HON. If you are lucky you may get an upgrade for half miles or just 1 eVoucher for a longhaul trip. It happened to me just once in 2002 on a LAX-FRA flight (in the lucky days, when F-upgrading on a transatlantic route was just for 35K). I asked her, if she would be okay with 25K and after a short phone call she was okay with this. But I assume, the lex Mayrhuber may not allow this anymore...
