I just did a Google Maps search from city to city, and it came back with 525+ miles.

The mileage may actually be similar between Memphis and OKC; for me that drive from OKC to ABQ just _felt_ longer because I drove a tall profile van that seemed to catch every gust of wind.

By the time I rolled into the Hampton Inn right off I-40, I felt more tired than the previous leg. Not so sure if it was the wind or not, but I did notice that it wasn't a leisurely drive down the freeway.

I also think the nature of the western state borders makes the ride seem longer. Those states are just so big! Thankfully, the drive through Texas only takes you through the panhandle. Imagine if your dad moved to El Paso, TX. He'd be driving through TX for weeks!

An iPod and audiobooks helped a great deal.
