US Air Club vs. AC Maple Leaf Lounge

I am a UA RCC member, but I fly US most of the time, which means I spend a lot of time in US Clubs.

Last week I was in YUL and had the opportunity to visit the Maple Leaf Lounge. After enjoying this wonderful club, the only word I can think of to describe the US club is "dump."

First of all, the booze is free. They have a self-serve bar area with top shelf liquors, draft beer, and a well-stocked fridge with sodas, mixers, juices, and beer.

Then, they had an array of snacks - cookies, fresh fruit, cold cuts, and cheese.

There was a wide selection of newspapers, at least 4 or 5, all with plenty of copies. Also, about 6 different magazines available.

Finally, they had several computers with free Internet.

Let's compare this to the US clubs:

-- No free booze
-- Lucky if there are a few copies of USA Today
-- No computers or free Internet
-- Minimal snacks, if any

The same can be said for UA RCCs.

I'm absolutely amazed that another *A carrier has clubs with such a drastically different service level.

I've always viewed US/UA clubs as basically a quiet place to sit and relax. That's about all I get. At the MLL, it seems like you get a lot more than that.
