I talked to my friend and she decided she will no longer consider cutting out before the last leg--she will celebrate with her father the next weekend. Under normal circumstances, she would not even consider this. Her mother died a couple weeks ago and she thought it would be good if she could be with her father on his 87th birthday to provide emotional support.
