I also believe that DL has miscalculated in its belief that if it restricts BE upgrades, flyers will purchase full fare tickets. That is certainly not the case with me. The cost of a BE ticket simply bears no relationship to its value. I recognize there are some individuals who will pay this exhorbitant cost, but I don't believe DL fills a substantial number of BE seats with flyers who having been denied an upgrade, go ahead and buy full fare tickets. In one of his posts, 10kster pointed out that after instituting this policy DL filled more seats with full fare customers ergo the policy works. I think there are other explanations. I would think a marketing study could easily be conducted which would provide the answer...if DL really wants it. My answer...no matter how many times you fail to clear me from the waitlist, no matter that you took away my SWUs, no matter that you won't give me a day of travel upgrade, I will not buy a full fare BE ticket.
