I only had situations where it really seemed to be impossible to waitlist when the flight was really in C and F and it was believable that there where more then 10 people waitlisted in front of you.

The LH Senator office in North America is closed for the weekend. I tried to call LH Senator in Germany using my cell phone or skype, it did not work. Well, use my home phone (with more expensive long distance charge), and I got connected. It's worth the effort, since the agent was very nice, and told me the chance to upgrade is pretty good, and she put me in the waitlist. I just checked "Checkmytrip.com" and yes, it's there the waitlisted segment.
