Brazil's Varig to end flights to Japan, to pay 6.7 mln usd to leasing companies

RIO DE JANEIRO (AFX) - Brazil's national carrier Varig will end services to Japan in January due to the company's financial circumstances.

On January 14, the airline will end its service from Sao Paulo to Tokyo via Los Angeles as well as cut the number of employees at its Japanese offices and close other offices in Asia.

The company will keep its profitable San Paolo to Los Angeles route.
Varig is already informing their customers in their magazine that pax bound to Japan can now conveniently choose LAX, MUC, FRA, CDG, etc etc, etc as alternatives within Star Alliance.

To be honest I find a connection in Europe easier than in the US. It avoids paying a huge amount of money for the honour of waiting 3 months to be initially screened by the US Consulate, and then 1/2 day work to be in a huge line for the known interview...
