Domestic flight connecting to int'l -- check-in times and lounge access?

Flying SFO-LAX tomorrow, with a 5 hour layover, then LAX-AKL via Air NZ. UA reservations says baggage will be checked all the way through, but I'll have to pick up my NZ boarding passes at LAX.

With this in mind, would I still be able to get any lounge access at SFO, even though all I'll have is my SFO-LAX boarding pass and Air NZ itinerary? Not sure if it helps, but I'll be flying business on Air NZ, first on the SFO-LAX flight...

Also, would I be adhering to int'l flight check-in times, or domestic, since I'm only checking in for my LAX flight?

Thanks! ^
