Cheapeast and shortest thing I know of (out here in the west) on a per segment basis is LAX-LAS with SJC in between. At 236/308/386 miles flown per segment, you can knock out a bunch of them and the cost (at least for the LAX-LAS part) is really cheap because they have to match Southwest, Ted, and America West/US at $39 each way. Usually ends up $100 RT with taxes for the straight LAX-LAS, and sometimes you can get one extra segment via SJC in the $78 base fare. Otherwise, it ends up being $118-$130 total with the stops in SJC each way (2 more segments per RT). But even then you are looking at $3000 - $3500 for 100 segments... long multi-hop transcons at $200 per RT might be better.
