Need Help Planning Acapulco Trip in March (Help Me Please!)

I'm in a bit of a predicament. I'm a college student trying to plan my Spring Break 2006 trip to Acapulco, ideally leaving from DTW 3/3 and leaving from ACA (Acapulco) 3/10. So here is the problem: all of the fares are currently priced at around $600, a price that seems a bit unreasonable to me.

I am a NWA Silver Elite and will have at least 44,000 miles in March. I also have around 40,000 miles on UA and around 40,000 miles on AA. I wouldn't mind burning around 30,000 miles on this trip, but there is No Award Availability. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the choice of going through a student travel agency that charters a flight out of DTW straight to ACA, but being a frequent FlyerTalk poster/reader, I can't even imagine flying a chartered flight... Through my calculation, the chartered flight costs around $500 (Total SB package through Bianchi-Rossi.com is around $1300 if staying at the Hyatt).

So I am asking you, my fellow FT'ers if you have can come up with anything here. I've missed out on Spring Break because of my computer journalism carrer ( going to trade shows), and I'm dead-set on not going to another Intel Developer Forum conference in San Francisco in March.
