It seems that many carriers have become much more stringent on baggage limitations, partially as a revenue generator. I tried finding something on Skyteam or SA's websites (as I'm sure the OP did as well), but no avail.

FWIW, Oneworld's website seems to imply that travelers need to be advised of the most restrictive allowance. Here's the actual text and link:

"Due to the different sizes of aircraft operated by oneworld members, the number of pieces and the maximum weight allowed will be determined by each airline's policies and procedures. Each oneworld member will advise customers of the most restrictive allowance for their oneworld itinerary at time of booking or check-in."

I know the OP isn't flying on oneworld, or Korean Air for that matter, but just more food for thought and discussion.
