I think it kind of depends on what the final destination is. I was behind someone checking in to India and the counter agent started to give them a hard time until they pointed out they were going to India and the allowance to India was still 70 pounds.

If the ticket is on SAA ticket stock, I would try printing out the page from the SAA website and showing it to the Delta counter agent if they give you any trouble.
